Course Summary
In this workshop you’ll get to focus on interesting approaches to writing poetry, including writing to a specific form, responding to other works of art and mobilizing your own unique voice. We’ll discover how these can free your creative thinking in exciting and unexpected ways. You’ll have time to workshop individual poems and read and critique each other’s work in a safe environment. The workshop atmosphere will be inclusive and not too formal, ensuring there is time for learning, exchange and enjoyment.

Course Outline
Participants will receive a small number of published poems to read in advance of each session, and these will be visited during the workshop for their merits and learnings. You will also bring along a poem of yours to share and these will be workshopped by the group. The focus throughout will be on deepening your awareness of technique and the ways in which your work can be improved.

Course Outcomes
Writers will come away with a greater awareness of how to write in response to the world around us, and how to build structure and originality into your writing. You’ll also have some new and workshopped poems along with some new techniques and concepts to deploy as you practice and develop your own writing. In the final session, we will discuss pathways for disseminating and publishing your poems.
