Poetry Day Ireland 2025 will take place on Thursday, 1 May, with this year’s theme: ‘May Day’.
The theme of ‘May Day’ provides a wealth of poetic inspiration. Marking the halfway point between the spring and autumn equinoxes, it is steeped in ancient customs—most notably the fire festival of Bealtaine, which represents renewal, hope, and abundance. Globally, May Day is also observed as International Workers’ Day, a moment to honour solidarity, unity, and the power of collective action.
Events will be taking place across the country. For more information on Poetry Day Ireland 2025, visit poetryday.ie. However you choose to celebrate, Poetry Ireland invites everyone to take part.
